Asus offers some of the best pink notebooks

I’m sure you all have heard about Asus, one of the biggest manufacturers of laptops and desktop components in the entire world. Their products are known for the good looks, performances and reliability, while having affordable prices for the everyday user.

In fact, they become even more notorious when they started the mini-laptop computers story, with their first EEE PCs. So no wonder they still offer some of the best and cheapest such small laptops, and most of their models are also available in pink.

Thus, in this post I’m going to tell you what are the best pink Asus laptops available right now and also explain each model’s advantages and weakness. Plus, if you’re interested in any of these devices, I’ll show you where can you get the best prices for them, online.

Asus laptops under $300

There aren’t many options here, but they do offer amazing price/features rapport and that’s why they quickly became very popular in US and Europe.

First we have the Asus EEE PC 1001P-M, which is at the moment my personal best pick. It’s a pink netbook, comes with a 10 inch display and only weighs 2.7 pounds, but can still offer great performances and autonomy. In fact, it packs the latest in mini laptops technology, the Intel Pinetrail platform, with 1 GB of RAM, 160 GB hard-drive, good connectivity options and Windows 7 OS. As for battery life, this one is up to 11 hours, thus making it really portable.

Pink Asus laptops under $300: EEE PC 1001P and kids destined Disney Netpal

And there’s also the Disney Netpal Asus computer, a mini laptop designed by Asus in collaboration with Disney and meant for kids. Comes with a 8.9 inch display and only weighs 2.2 pounds. Plus, there’s a special software package installed with many types of applications for kids and parental control options, thus making this Disney Netpal a perfect laptop for your young girl (more on pink laptops for kids in this post).

Asus pink notebooks under $400

For the moment, there aren’t many good pink Asus portable computers in the $300-$400 price range. But expect some solid ground shakers to be launched in the near future, as most of their latest series are not yet available in pink.

For now, we do have a very interesting netbook though, the 10 inch Asus EEE PC 1008HA, part of their fashion series.

It is one of the slimmest and lightest mini laptops in the 10 inch class, with a 1 inch thick body and only weighing 2.4 pounds. And it looks amazing in the stylish light pink and glossy finishing. Although that glossy surface is kind of pretentious and you should protect it properly with the right accessories to keep it as new for a longer time.

Inside you get good hardware that will be able to run any type of applications you might want, besides games and HD movies (small computers like this one just aren’t powerful enough for such demands). But you do get a very good keyboard and touchpad, a webcam and top-notch connectivity options (Wi+Fi and Bluetooth). Unfortunately, there’s one downside for the 1008HA: because they had to make it that slim, only a 3 Cell battery could be included, which is only enough for around 5-6 hours of life.

Asus laptop above $400

As for expensive pink laptops, Asus doesn’t actually have many of these. And I doubt they plan to make either, their expensive devices are meant for gaming and heavy multimedia usage and don’t come in pink (there are some available in white though, which is also a nice color for a girl’s laptop).

Anyway, they do have something interesting in pink in this class, another 10 incher, the EEE PC 1008P, a special edition designer netbook signed by Karim Rashid.

Comes with a special tiled matte case in a vivid pink finish and offers quite some goodies over the previous Asus laptops in this post: a better chiclet keyboard with independent keys and a wider matte touch-pad, the PineTrail platform inside with 2 GB of memory and 250 GB storage space, a better webcam and 2 batteries in the pack, that together make to up to 13 hours of life.

Plus, you get the unique look and the case comes with Karim Rashid’s signature on it (on the right side of the palm rest).

Buying a cheap pink mini notebook ain't easy, but these tips will help

First, there are a couple of rules you have to be aware of before buying anything. It’s better to do your homework first at home and search online to see what are your options according to your needs and budget. Dedicated posts and tops on this subject are one way to do it, going online on big stores and check the reviews from other buyers is even a better one.

Then, you have the choice to get the products online or offline. Usually, you’ll get better deals on pink notebooks online, but in offline stores you have the chance to see them before. Anyway, if you pick to shop in an offline shop, never trust the staff. Their job is to make you buy and they’ll tell you anything in order to do that, even by concealing known faults a device might have. That’s why it’s better to make your “homework” before.

I for one prefer shopping online. During the years I’ve came in contact with quite a couple of different types of gadgets and electronic devices (i’ve been an editor for a big gizmos site) and i can now take the right decisions easily and even help others pick the right offers.

Anyway, when looking for cheap devices, you actually have three different options:

1. 

   Pink netbooks are perfect for girls: cheap, fancy and light

   Go for a new 10-12 inch mini netbook that sells for around $300 – $400 . For that money, you get good hardware, Windows 7 OS, a light and portable gadget and an excellent battery life (usually even above 10 hours). It will be able to run all your daily applications and you will be able to go on the Internet, write texts, watch photos and movies, listen to music, chat with your friends, etc. You just won’t be able to watch HD clips or play games on most of them, these cheap computers are not powerful enough for that. 2. Look for bargains an deals on bigger laptops that usually run for more money, but sometimes can be found with 20 to 60% rebates (usually for limited periods). Some of the best periods to look for such discounts is during the Winter sales period, on Black Friday, Cyber Monday or in the week before Christmas.
3. Last but not least, you can always go for factory refurbished pink laptops. These are almost as good as the new products in terms of hardware, but might have some marks and scratches on the case or box. According to the gravity of these marks, they will come with  discounts between 10 to 50% . Still, there’s one big problem with refurbished computers: they only have 3 to 6 months warranty. And as you might now, fixing a laptop is most of the times more expensive than buying a new one .

Thus, if i were to find affordable pink notebooks right now, my first pick would be the netbooks mentioned above. For a girl, they are just perfect (light, compact, portable) and there are quite many versions and designs available on the market right now.

Of course, if money are not a problem, you can always find better machines, like one of those Macs  (that can be customized to come in pink) or a Dell, HP or Sony Vaio. Still, if you won’t be lucky to find some good rebates for them, such computers are not at all cheap. Also, you should check our section of deals and sales for some good scoops.

Anyway, like in most other domains, there are a couple of nice pink laptops and laptopish devices you can choose on the market, from basic educational machines and up to all around computers, very similar to the ones meant for grown ups. For preschoolers and youngsters, VTech is the company to look for, as they make some very nice devices meant to stimulate creativity, intelligence, and help the kids learn new stuff easier etc. I would recommend these two:

• VTech Infant Learning Baby’s – meant for kids older than 6 months, this is an intelligent toy that comes, with sounds, images, songs and lots of learning options. It benefits from top notch reviews from previous buyers (5 out of 5 marks), as they were satisfied by the multitude of applications this device brings and by how safe it is for young kids to use. It is also affordable, as it costs around $30 .
• VTech Grade School Learning Nitro – this might look as a notebook, but it’s actually a more advanced learning machine, with up to 80 different activities. Interface is available in English or Spanish and the system guides you kids through completing the tasks and also keeps track of thei activity. It’s meant for children between 5 and 8 and it is a little bit more expensive (sells for around $100), but once again we have a device with very good marks and reviews from previous buyers.

Of course, there are surely some similar other deices on the market (you can check some of the other VTech products for instance here), i recommended these ones because i have a couple of friends with kids using them and i could see the smart-toys in actions myself. And this way i can really vouch for how good they are.

Of course, if you want something better, an actual laptop, the best option at hand is perhaps Disney’s Netpal netbook, developed with Asus, one of the biggest laptop manufactgurers in the world. It is in fact a standard 9 inch mini laptop, with good hardware and running Windows XP. So it can be used for music playing, video watching, getting onlien, doing homework, etc.

The best part is that Disney personalized the interface for this device and enriched it with lots of their own stimulating applications and games, as well as a very good parental control feature, so you can always monitor your kids activity online and only allow access to the sites you consider safe. This device is available in pink (but there’s also a Blue version, for boys), and sells for $345 right now. Might sound pricey, but remember that this is an actual laptop and while it is meant for kids between 5 and 10, it can actually be used by anyone.

New Vaio CW, in pink`

Sony recently announced their last line of Vaio notebooks for the next 6 months, and luckily, the Vaio CW got a new improved pink version. It combines the known Vaio looks and design with a vibrant pink and shinny exterior, making it a dream laptop for every woman or girl.

On the inside there are some impressive components:

• a 2.2 Ghz processor
• 4 GB of RAM
• a 320 GB hard-drive
• Wireless, Bluetooth, etc
• new Windows 7 OS

The 14″ LED display from Sony is one of the best available on the market and the chiclet style keyboard is extremmely comfortable to use even by those of you with longer fingernails, because each key is separated from the others (see the link bellow for more pictures). As for battery, this pink Vaio CW will be able to run for up to 4 hours, and that’s pretty decent.

Since it has only a 14 inch screen, the CW is not too big or too heavy, although at 5.3 lbs you won’t be able to carry it on your bag. That’s why you would probably need a good case, and what can be better than the Sony VAIO Cushioned Carrying Case (the one on the picture to the left), specially  made for this device, good looking and durable. oh, and also quite affordable, as it’s available right here for $65.99 (might seem much, but remember this is not an ordinary case, but a premium one from Sony).

And speaking of prices, unlike most of the Vaios, the CW version is still affordable for regular users, as it only costs $799. Once again, this is not that cheap, but you can’t compare a Sony with an Acer or a MSI for example, considering the hardware you get, the looks and the incredible build quality.
