Asus was one of the first producers to announce a pink version of one of these new mini laptops, the one you can see in the pictures bellow, called the EEE PC 1008P-KR Karim Rashid Special Collection edition. As the name says, it is in fact a 10 inch netbook with some special looks, created by Karim Rashid, a designer know for its great looking work.

In terms of hardware, the new device brings a 1.66 GHz Atom N450 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 320 GB hard-drive and Intel GMA 3150 graphics. This is enough to run Windows 7 and decently work for your standard everyday activities: web surfing, chatting, listening to music, watching movies, writing, etc. This laptop is in fact the follower of another great looking machine, the EEE PC Seashell 1005HA, and brings over it some other improvements: case is now matte and less prone to scratches and fingerprints, keyboard is better (chiclet style, with independent keys), touchpad and speakers are also of a higher quality, etc.

All in one, this Asus 1008P-KR is quite a machine. For now it is only available in stores in brown, as the pink versions displayed in the pictures is already out of stock. However, it should be available again soon, so check this link for more details and the option to buy one yourself.

Price is right now $499, kind of steep, but remember that this is a special edition netbook you won’t see on every road. So, if you want a good looking more unique mini laptop, this 10 inch Asus EEE PC 1008P-KR by Karim Rashid might be just the one.

I’m sure you all have heard about Asus, one of the biggest manufacturers of laptops and desktop components in the entire world. Their products are known for the good looks, performances and reliability, while having affordable prices for the everyday user.

In fact, they become even more notorious when they started the mini-laptop computers story, with their first EEE PCs. So no wonder they still offer some of the best and cheapest such small laptops, and most of their models are also available in pink.

Thus, in this post I’m going to tell you what are the best pink Asus laptops available right now and also explain each model’s advantages and weakness. Plus, if you’re interested in any of these devices, I’ll show you where can you get the best prices for them, online.

Asus laptops under $300

There aren’t many options here, but they do offer amazing price/features rapport and that’s why they quickly became very popular in US and Europe.

First we have the Asus EEE PC 1001P-M, which is at the moment my personal best pick. It’s a pink netbook, comes with a 10 inch display and only weighs 2.7 pounds, but can still offer great performances and autonomy. In fact, it packs the latest in mini laptops technology, the Intel Pinetrail platform, with 1 GB of RAM, 160 GB hard-drive, good connectivity options and Windows 7 OS. As for battery life, this one is up to 11 hours, thus making it really portable.

Pink Asus laptops under $300: EEE PC 1001P and kids destined Disney Netpal

And there’s also the Disney Netpal Asus computer, a mini laptop designed by Asus in collaboration with Disney and meant for kids. Comes with a 8.9 inch display and only weighs 2.2 pounds. Plus, there’s a special software package installed with many types of applications for kids and parental control options, thus making this Disney Netpal a perfect laptop for your young girl (more on pink laptops for kids in this post).

Asus pink notebooks under $400

For the moment, there aren’t many good pink Asus portable computers in the $300-$400 price range. But expect some solid ground shakers to be launched in the near future, as most of their latest series are not yet available in pink.

For now, we do have a very interesting netbook though, the 10 inch Asus EEE PC 1008HA, part of their fashion series.

It is one of the slimmest and lightest mini laptops in the 10 inch class, with a 1 inch thick body and only weighing 2.4 pounds. And it looks amazing in the stylish light pink and glossy finishing. Although that glossy surface is kind of pretentious and you should protect it properly with the right accessories to keep it as new for a longer time.

Inside you get good hardware that will be able to run any type of applications you might want, besides games and HD movies (small computers like this one just aren’t powerful enough for such demands). But you do get a very good keyboard and touchpad, a webcam and top-notch connectivity options (Wi+Fi and Bluetooth). Unfortunately, there’s one downside for the 1008HA: because they had to make it that slim, only a 3 Cell battery could be included, which is only enough for around 5-6 hours of life.

Asus laptop above $400

As for expensive pink laptops, Asus doesn’t actually have many of these. And I doubt they plan to make either, their expensive devices are meant for gaming and heavy multimedia usage and don’t come in pink (there are some available in white though, which is also a nice color for a girl’s laptop).

Anyway, they do have something interesting in pink in this class, another 10 incher, the EEE PC 1008P, a special edition designer netbook signed by Karim Rashid.

Comes with a special tiled matte case in a vivid pink finish and offers quite some goodies over the previous Asus laptops in this post: a better chiclet keyboard with independent keys and a wider matte touch-pad, the PineTrail platform inside with 2 GB of memory and 250 GB storage space, a better webcam and 2 batteries in the pack, that together make to up to 13 hours of life.

Plus, you get the unique look and the case comes with Karim Rashid’s signature on it (on the right side of the palm rest).

If you’re on this site, that means you must be a fan of pink computers. If you already own a pink laptop or plan to get one in the near future, you must also look for some matching accessories for it. In pink too, of course.

I’m going to give a helping hand in this quest, by showing you what are the most interesting types of pink accessories for notebooks and netbooks you can find on the market right now. Also, i will tell you where can you get good deals for these and answer any questions you might have on the subject.

First, your pink notebooks is definitely a looker, but remember that it won’t remain as new forever. Especially not if you don’t offer the right amount of protection for it. So, perhaps the most important accessories for a laptop are the protecting ones. And you have a couple of different options:

• pink laptop bags – come in different forms, sizes and shapes, from shoulder bags for girls to messenger type ones, from made of ordinary fabric to leather, from big ones that can fit a huge 17 inch workstation to compact ones meant for small 10 inch netbooks. • pink notebook cases – also come in different types, from the soft fabric ones meant to embrace the computer like a pouch (known as laptop sleeves) and protect it when carried, to the plastic or polycarbonate ones that are attached permanently to the device (like these ones for 13 inch Macbooks).
• laptop skins – protective sheets that stick to the laptop and protects it from scratches, dust, etc. They come in a variety of designs, are pretty cheap and have the advantage that can be pealed off and replaced easily. Are a must have if you want to give your pink computer an unique air, while protecting it.

• pink backpacks for laptops – last but not least, there’s this category. I don’t see myself carrying a pink backpack , but if you need a pink laptop for your young girl, such an accessory would certainly make her day, especially as they come with different themes (like Barbie dolls, ponies, etc) and also offer space for books and other things needed at school.

But this is just the beginning. The first thing you’ll need after you’ll get the protection parts is a proper mouse. And it has to be pink also, unless you’d ruin the harmony of the whole ensemble. Since demand for such products is high, even big names like Logitech and Microsoft offer them, and i’d recommend getting one of these. According to size and feature, will cost you from 10 to 50 bucks. More on this in a future dedicated post.

Then, a Flash memory drive is a must have these days. There are many different version available, from ultra compact ones to solid and rugged designs meant to resist heavy shocks. Once again, they range from 10 to 100 bucks. I would recommend getting a 4-8 GB one from big brands like Kingston, Lacie or Sandisk. More on this in a future post too.

The problem with small and cheap pink computers is that most of the time they don’t offer very good speakers. But there are solutions, quite many actually, and quite good, with devices from Sony, Logitech and other big names that won’t cost you too much. Be careful just not to use too many on your laptop

Last but not least, if you’re looking for something more extreme, you can get matching pink desk and desk-chair, once again a set of accessories perfect for little girls, but only for them. Not sure how much will these cost you, you’ll have to check out the local furniture stores for more details.

And there are certainly other types of interesting pink accessories you might get for your mini laptop. I for one consider a case, a couple of skins, a decent mouse and a 4 GB flash drive a must. The rest are just optional.

Buying a cheap pink mini notebook ain't easy, but these tips will help

First, there are a couple of rules you have to be aware of before buying anything. It’s better to do your homework first at home and search online to see what are your options according to your needs and budget. Dedicated posts and tops on this subject are one way to do it, going online on big stores and check the reviews from other buyers is even a better one.

Then, you have the choice to get the products online or offline. Usually, you’ll get better deals on pink notebooks online, but in offline stores you have the chance to see them before. Anyway, if you pick to shop in an offline shop, never trust the staff. Their job is to make you buy and they’ll tell you anything in order to do that, even by concealing known faults a device might have. That’s why it’s better to make your “homework” before.

I for one prefer shopping online. During the years I’ve came in contact with quite a couple of different types of gadgets and electronic devices (i’ve been an editor for a big gizmos site) and i can now take the right decisions easily and even help others pick the right offers.

Anyway, when looking for cheap devices, you actually have three different options:

   Pink netbooks are perfect for girls: cheap, fancy and light

   Go for a new 10-12 inch mini netbook that sells for around $300 – $400 . For that money, you get good hardware, Windows 7 OS, a light and portable gadget and an excellent battery life (usually even above 10 hours). It will be able to run all your daily applications and you will be able to go on the Internet, write texts, watch photos and movies, listen to music, chat with your friends, etc. You just won’t be able to watch HD clips or play games on most of them, these cheap computers are not powerful enough for that. 2. Look for bargains an deals on bigger laptops that usually run for more money, but sometimes can be found with 20 to 60% rebates (usually for limited periods). Some of the best periods to look for such discounts is during the Winter sales period, on Black Friday, Cyber Monday or in the week before Christmas.
3. Last but not least, you can always go for factory refurbished pink laptops. These are almost as good as the new products in terms of hardware, but might have some marks and scratches on the case or box. According to the gravity of these marks, they will come with  discounts between 10 to 50% . Still, there’s one big problem with refurbished computers: they only have 3 to 6 months warranty. And as you might now, fixing a laptop is most of the times more expensive than buying a new one .

Thus, if i were to find affordable pink notebooks right now, my first pick would be the netbooks mentioned above. For a girl, they are just perfect (light, compact, portable) and there are quite many versions and designs available on the market right now.

Of course, if money are not a problem, you can always find better machines, like one of those Macs  (that can be customized to come in pink) or a Dell, HP or Sony Vaio. For us, girls, they really offer quite a lot of advantages over the classic notebooks, you can see some of them below:

My boyfriend has one of these, but in black, and he is very satisfied with performance and reliability. Comes with a 10 inch display and a matte case (that’s good, cause it will be more resistant in time and won’t catch smudges and scratches as easy as glossy devices do).

Offers good hardware that will do just fine with your everyday programs and comes with Windows 7. As for battery life, that’s around 8 to 9 hours, so more than enough.

Proof of how good this device is are the reviews and marks from other owners on big stores like Amazon (4.3 mark out of 5). And now, you can get this product for only $299, with a 100 bucks discount from the list price. But hurry up, that deal won’t last for long. And neither will stocks.

New Asus 1001P – only $290 and Free shipping (with discount)

Asus are the biggest netbooks producers in the world and their products are very popular on the established markets in US and Europe.

The 1001P is one of their newest models, with powerful PineTrail hardware inside (latest technology in this field), Windows 7 operating system and a 6 Cell battery capable of up to 11 hours of life (the best of all the pink netbooks available right now).

Pink Sony Vaio W – classy and portable (more details)

You know that Sony makes some of the best laptops in the world and the Vaio W is no exception. It costs more than the others, but it is a very hot pink netbook with astonishing looks and build quality, plus good performances and battery life.

It is available in a more vivid pink flavor that the others and packs good hardware with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Of course, you get Windows 7 as the OS and the 10 inch display is LED backlit.

I for one would choose the Toshiba right now, as it provides the perfect balance between features and price. The Asus is also a very good and fancy device, plus it comes with the bigger battery, i just don’t like that it provides a standard keyboard and not a chiclet one.

The Vaio is definitely the best of all in every aspect (except autonomy), but it costs quite a lot more. It is a perfect choice, but only if money are not a concern.

Pink EEE PC 1005HA mini computer from Asus

A newer more powerful version of the pink 1005HA, equipped with Windows 7, will be available pretty soon. I’ll update the post once it gets out.

Anyway, like in most other domains, there are a couple of nice pink laptops and laptopish devices you can choose on the market, from basic educational machines and up to all around computers, very similar to the ones meant for grown ups. For preschoolers and youngsters, VTech is the company to look for, as they make some very nice devices meant to stimulate creativity, intelligence, and help the kids learn new stuff easier etc. I would recommend these two:

• VTech Grade School Learning Nitro – this might look as a notebook, but it’s actually a more advanced learning machine, with up to 80 different activities. Interface is available in English or Spanish and the system guides you kids through completing the tasks and also keeps track of thei activity. It’s meant for children between 5 and 8 and it is a little bit more expensive (sells for around $100), but once again we have a device with very good marks and reviews from previous buyers.

Of course, there are surely some similar other deices on the market (you can check some of the other VTech products for instance here), i recommended these ones because i have a couple of friends with kids using them and i could see the smart-toys in actions myself. And this way i can really vouch for how good they are.

Of course, if you want something better, an actual laptop, the best option at hand is perhaps Disney’s Netpal netbook, developed with Asus, one of the biggest laptop manufactgurers in the world. It is in fact a standard 9 inch mini laptop, with good hardware and running Windows XP. So it can be used for music playing, video watching, getting onlien, doing homework, etc.

The best part is that Disney personalized the interface for this device and enriched it with lots of their own stimulating applications and games, as well as a very good parental control feature, so you can always monitor your kids activity online and only allow access to the sites you consider safe. This device is available in pink (but there’s also a Blue version, for boys), and sells for $345 right now. Might sound pricey, but remember that this is an actual laptop and while it is meant for kids between 5 and 10, it can actually be used by anyone.

It’s in fact a 2.1 system with two pink satellites and a control-unit, plus a black subwoofer. The entire system comes for a very good price, benefits of 2 years warranty and since it’s a Logitech, it definitely provides good sound quality, while being reliable.

Sony portable speaker system – $49.99 -  this is a nice pink system of portable speakers from Sony, with two pieces. Comes with 39 mm driver units and the 5 W power should be enough for those who like to listen to their music “loud”.

Also, the system is pretty light, around 150g with the included 3 AA batteries needed to power the speakers, so can be easily carried around and connected to your laptop when in need of better sound than the integrated speakers can provide.

Boynq Vase FM speaker

Boynq Vase FM Acoustic Lens Speaker – $19.99 ($39.99) – this is actually a better speaker than you might think. Comes with the Vase design but offer both quality and power (3W RMS). Doesn’t need batteries to run as it connect to the computer via USB and offers different settings for treble and bass. And now, as it comes with a 50% price cut, this Boynq system is even more interesting, either as a desktop computer or as a portable laptop speaker.

Sony SRS-TP1 travel speaker – $19.99 ($39.99) – if you need a compact, slim and portable speaker, this is the one, as it also provides very good sound quality and decent power. They can be folded shut when not used and can be opened when you need them and connected to the audio-out via the given jack in the packet. And they are also discounted, so you can get them for a very nice price.

That’s it for now, these are white i consider to be right now the best pink speakers on the market. Most of them are light and portable and all offer great sound quality, while being pretty affordable.

Outside, this Toshiba NB205 is not incredibly well looking, but is however very nicely proportioned and appealing (see the pictures for more details). Has a pink matte case , but can also be found in other colors. Opening the lid you’ll notice a fairly glossy display (as in not too glossy), the metallic chiclet keyboard and the nice touchpad.

The best part is that this Toshiba NB205 comes with a 6 Cell battery capable of up to 9 hours of juice, in real life tests. And that’s one of the best batteries offered on a netbook at the moment.

And if the above were not enough, you should also know that this mini laptop is one of the most popular in its class in US and benefits from great reviews and marks from previous buyers, the only thing that they reproach it being the poor overall speakers quality. But i for one can leave without, as i always use headphones with my laptop.
